Parkour Spirit Sessions Return!
02 March 2021
PARKOUR SPIRIT SESSIONS – Monthly Challenge!
One of the central tenets of our practice is the notion of regular challenge: the idea that personal growth – be it physical, psychological or spiritual – only truly comes through experiencing adversity and finding the inner strength to adapt and overcome.
Challenge is how we learn, how we push the envelope, how we discover our current limitations and exceed them. Whilst the current lockdown regulations present their own type of challenge and mean our Parkour Spirit Session won’t be done together; we hope it can still provide a chance for friends and PKGen members to develop as a community, by sharing your efforts online. Post a photo or video of your session, tagging #parkourspiritsession and #pkgenlondon and we’ll repost for all to see!
MARCH CHALLENGE
– Find a rail that you feel comfortable to balance on.
– Get yourself ready with a 31 min countdown timer.
– Aim to start the clock when you set both feet on the rail and stay in balance for as much of the 31 minutes as possible.
– Each time you fall off, stop the clock and perform X number of squats.
– The number of squats will accumulate for every time you fall off. Fall 1 = 1 squat. Fall 2 = 2 squats. Fall 10 = 10 squats. And so on…
– Your timer continues once you have completed your squats and are back on the rail again.
– Aim to complete your 31 min rail balance in as short a time as possible.
– Advanced athletes should add additional challenge of a higher rail to balance on. Beginners should aim for something shin to knee height off the floor.
Enjoy!

In Part 3 we’re focusing on the shoulder girdle, which will encompass issues of the shoulders themselves, the scapular, neck and upper limbs. Modern living sees us often in kyphotic positions for hours at a time; bent over desks, steering wheels and mobile phone screens. Add to this that most of us don’t know how to breathe properly and are therefore elevating the traps around 20,000 times per day and it’s no wonder that our shoulders get tight and blocked up. Here’s where we fix things!
